INSIDE THIS EPISODE
* Pitching Brands
* Brands pitching bloggers
* Your Ideal Reader...Your Target Audience
* Components of a standard pitch

JUICY QUOTES
"The big thing is to take the middle man out. To take the blogger network out of the equation." Taylor Bradford

"When you are working with the brand directly, you also have more flexibility in terms of length of contract, focus. You are really able to tailor a campaign to your audience versus a campaign that a company has gone to a network and paid to have 50 bloggers participate in. So you can really be sure it's perfect for your readership versus everyone else in your niche." Carly Anderson

"If it doesn't make sense for your brand, there is no point in pitching them." Taylor Bradford

"It's going to end up being one of those posts that is difficult to write. [one that doesn't fit with your brand or is a stretch]" Carly Anderson

"You have to always be careful with how you say no to the brand." Taylor Bradford

"If you have the perfect blogger for what they are looking for, recommend them." Taylor Bradford

"It's a matter of what they have to offer and when they are able to pay." Carly Anderson

"Looking at it as an opportunity to pitch what you can do, is the best way to go." Carly Anderson

"Nobody wants to work with that rude girl." Carly Anderson

"Identify the brands that you most want to work with. That most aligns with your community and your brand. And go after those companies and those brands. As long as there is a mutual benefit to the two of you, it's probably going to work. Most likely. Unless you are pitching to the moon or something." Taylor Bradford

"It's important to come up with who is your customer." Taylor Bradford

INSIDE THIS EPISODE
* Disclosures
* The Federal Trade Commission (FTC)

JUICY QUOTES
"What is a disclosure? In general laymen terms, it's just you alerting your readers that you received product or compensation or the post is sponsored. Or the tweet is sponsored. You are alerting them to that fact." Taylor Bradford

"Disclosures are mandated by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC)." Taylor Bradford

"The key things that you need to pay attention to in there (in the Dot Com Disclosure guidelines from the FTC) is that a disclosure has to be clear, concise and conspicuous." Taylor Bradford

"The rule states that it (your disclosure) has to be before your first outbound link." Jennifer Salter

"When it comes to disclosures on your website or your blog, that's it. That's the bottom line. You have to disclose. If you get paid for something. You have to disclose that you got paid." Taylor Bradford

"You have to tell them (your reader) because they need to take that into consideration in whether or not you have a biased opinion on the product or service or something. If they don't know that you received compensation for something, they are going to take you at face value. But what if you did receive compensation, you might blur the lines a little bit on something if you weren't satisfied or what not. People need to know that kind of stuff." Jennifer Salter

"You do not want to dupe a consumer. They can go right to the FTC and report you for that." Taylor Bradford

"A person coming over from Pinterest doesn't understand the blogging world, if they are not a blogger themselves. You have to be writing like they don't know there's rules." Taylor Bradford

"You have to write like they (your readers) know nothing and you are explaining from the very beginning and in the most basic form." Jennifer Salter

"Do not use hashtag #sp because your typical person does not know what that stands for." Taylor Bradford

"You can't use the "I didn't know"." Taylor Bradford

"You need to start asking questions, especially if this is something you want to do to start making some side hustle money from." Taylor Bradford

INSIDE THIS EPISODE
* Link Parties
* Blog Crawl & Hops
* Ideal Customer

JUICY QUOTES
"A link party is basically where the host blog, gives you the opportunity to leave a link and a thumbnail image that links back to your site in a particular post. The cool thing about that is that you are getting your content out in front of their viewers." Jennifer Salter

"We live in an image-based society." Jennifer Salter

"I think you have to ask yourself a couple of questions before you decide if you are going to host a link party. It's a lot of work. It's not something you just decide to do and if you want it to truly grow, you're going to have to put the time and effort behind it. And you also have to ask yourself, 'why are you doing it?'" Taylor Bradford

"If you are dropping your own links, you are hoping that you will potentially have more eye balls on your posts." Taylor Bradford

"You always want to be asking yourself, 'Is this beneficial to my ideal reader?' 'Is this answering their questions?' 'Is this providing them value?' Because those are the people, your readers, are the people that are continuing to come back to your website." Taylor Bradford

INSIDE THIS EPISODE
* No-Follow Links
* Do-Follow Links
* Affiliate Income
* Google's Webmaster Policy about No-Follow Links
* Link schemes

JUICY QUOTES
"No-follow links is a bit of HTML code that you add into your link that is going outbound to a brand, boutique, product or service. If you are getting paid to write about said brand or service or product or whatever, if it's in money or product compensation, you need to be no-following these links. That tells Google that you either a) don't trust the source or you've been paid. One of the two." Taylor Bradford

"If you are being paid to talk about a brand or service, your links going to that brand or service have to be no-follow links." Taylor Bradford

"Some people will say, oh well it's just Google. But, Hello! It's GOOGLE! Google runs the internet. If you blog, you are on the internet. And you do not want to piss off the Google gods...EVER!" Jennifer Salter

"It's going to hurt your brand and their brand simultaneously if you don't follow these rules." Taylor Bradford

"When it comes to this kind of stuff, go to the source." Jennifer Salter

"Ignorance is not bliss." Taylor Bradford

"Start doing your research on how to go about doing these things the right way." Taylor Bradford

"Do your own research and know 100%. Even in the articles that you and I have written about these kinds of subjects, we have both said we are quoting these sources, but go read these sources for yourself. Interpret them yourself. Get the knowledge in your own head so that you can stand up for your own brand." Jennifer Salter

"At the end of the day, no one else is representing you." Taylor Bradford

"If you are an Amazon Associate, you cannot send out affiliate links through an RSS Feed or a newsletter." Taylor Bradford

* You are your brand
* Online Privacy
* Grabbing ALL of your social media names
* Consistency in blogging
* Creating an editorial calendar

JUICY QUOTES
"You just need to start [a blog]. I don't necessarily think you need to have a whole lot of content in the back burner to get started blogging. I think the biggest thing you need to do is just start blogging." Taylor Bradford

"We didn't have anything when we started. It was a wing and prayer when we got started. And I think sometimes that's the best way to learn." Jennifer Salter

"You don't really find your voice [in your blog]...you're not going to be able to pinpoint that [your voice] until you get started and start developing your audience." Jennifer Salter

"Get yourself into like-minded Facebook groups and start interacting with people that might be in your business niche. Or maybe it's solopreneurs or creative entrepreneurs, some kind of Facebook group where you can literally if they have a weekly thread or a daily thread where you can throw your brand new content out there. Then you can start getting some eyes on that and start building kind of your self-confidence behind your content." Taylor Bradford

"Every blogger starts at zero. Every single one of us." Taylor Bradford

"Start with your customer's number one question. That should be your first blog post." Taylor Bradford

"People need to know the why behind your business." Jennifer Salter

"It's important to put your face out there....you are your brand, regardless of what direction you take it. You are you and you are your brand. You have to put your face on that." Jennifer Salter

"Consistency is so the key. And that is something that you need to sit down and have a discussion with yourself and say this is how often I'm going to post and these are the days I'm going to post. And you need to stick to that schedule because your readers will come to know what that schedule is." Taylor Bradford

* Being Excellent at a Few Things
* Managing Fear

JUICY QUOTES
"To really, to get great folks on your team and to help them develop in a way so that they can be using their giftedness and really trying to get out of the way and let them do what they are there to do. I think one of the hard things when you are a creative is, you know, we kind of tend to think if something is our baby, and when we have an idea or a vision of how we want to do something, that there is only one way to get there. And the truth is, there are a lot of different methods. Really letting people use their own method, and as long as everyone has the same goal and the same vision, that's the main thing." Angela Correll

"We all can do a lot of things, but there are only a few things we can probably do well." Angela Correll

"Doing things in excellence takes time and energy." Angela Correll

"Sometimes you can rob someone else of an opportunity by trying to do everything." Angela Correll

"I think perseverance and patience are two of the most important qualities you can have. I've just seen over and over in my life that perseverance is so much more valuable than talent really." Angela Correll

And when I'm writing the tweet or writing the facebook post share, I'm making sure to tag them because when it pops up in their radar, it's basically free advertisement for them. QUOTES FROM THIS EPISODE
"What is an opt-in? An opt-in is a freebie. Something you give people to sign up for your email list." Taylor Bradford

"It's important to have an opt-in so that you can get people interested in the content that you are creating every day or every other day or however often you are creating your content for your website or your blog." Taylor Bradford

"You want to be able to provide something else that's unique to who you are and what you are creating on your website or your blog. And provide that specifically to the people that want to sign up to get your stuff in their inbox." Taylor Bradford

"Here's the thing: a brand new subscriber probably hasn't read your content from a year ago. And what better way to purpose what you've already written in the past by putting it into a PDF." Taylor Bradford

"Allowing people to kind of have a little bit more behind-the-scenes access to you, so that they can get to know who you are and become an avid reader of whatever you create." Taylor Bradford

"If you create a drip campaign and they want it all at once, add something extra to kind of boost that." Community member, Quita from Audacious Biz

"If you are wanting to grow your community through your email list, I would do more than just your RSS automatic feed to their [your subscribers] email." Taylor Bradford

"How in the world do we engage people to just want to sign up for your email newsletter? First of all, the opt-in. That's one. SEcond of all, getting people to answer questions." Taylor Bradford

"Always add a call-to-action at the end of your emails." Taylor Bradford

QUOTES BY TAYLOR
"SEO is Search Engine Optimization and it is important. However, if you're trying to target a very broad keyword, for example, happy or sad or something that, if you went to Google right now and you just typed in that word, you would get a ton of results." Taylor Bradford

"When you are gearing up your posts for SEO purposes, to rank high in the search engines, you have to take a couple of things into consideration: how broad is the search term and if you go to Google and start typing that term in, what other words pop up with it before you hit the enter button?" Taylor Bradford

"When you are trying to come up with your keyword for your blog post, go look at Pinterest search." Taylor Bradford

"If you can come up with a better phrase that people might already be searching for, that may not be as broad...as the word happy...maybe you can narrow it down just a little bit with whatever you are trying to create, that is going to help you out." Taylor Bradford

"SEO is good, however, if you are trying to rank high off of one post for SEO purposes and that's already a word or phrase that has a lot of searching on it, it's going to be an uphill battle for you until you can establish yourself as an authority on that search term or phrase." Taylor Bradford

"What are you truly trying to use SEO for and is it going to benefit you?" Taylor Bradford

"I think building a community with your brand is probably more important now days then SEO." Taylor Bradford

"I recommend that you don't spam your own blog...leaving comments on your own blog that say 'thanks for your comment'...with comments like that, if you can re-contribute back to the conversation in a comment that somehow reiterates your post and your keywords within your comment, then I totally think it's okay for you to comment back on your blog." Taylor Bradford

"A tip on how you can build community through email: somebody leaves you a comment on the blog. You respond back to that person and however you need to respond back, send them to something else on the blog." Taylor Bradford

"Work on growing your email list." Taylor Bradford

"One thing you want to do in those emails is talk to your people like you are having coffee with them. Have a conversation. Ask them questions." Taylor Bradford

"SEO is still important. Don't get me wrong. Don't completely squash the whole SEO thing. But understand it takes a lot of work to build on your SEO presence based on what you are trying to accomplish. So if you want to be known as what ever it is you want to be know on, you need to write a lot of content based on that theme in order to truly rank high for SEO." Taylor Bradford

"Microblogging is just blogging on another social media platform." Taylor Bradford

INSIDE THIS EPISODE
* Growing your voice
* Being authentic
* Creative Spark
* Launching a product
* You are worth it
* There's room for everyone

QUOTES BY TAYLOR
"It's just not rainbows and roses all the time. And I think the more authentic you can be on your blog and your social media platforms, that's what drives readers to keep coming back." Taylor Bradford

"Because you are worth so much more!" Taylor Bradford

"I think once you have that creative spark or something, that you know you can carve out your own little space and make it awesome. And truly make it what you want it to be. You may not know exactly the details, but you know that there is a huge possibility." Taylor Bradford

"I think if you are not constantly trying to learn, then I think you are doing a disservice to your own brand and to your own business." Taylor Bradford

"I think it's important to learn from the mistakes [made in blogging/business]." Taylor Bradford

"If you have the heart and the drive and the passion, I think you really can do anything you set your mind to doing." Taylor Bradford

QUOTES BY HELENE
"Finding my blogging voice has always been very difficult. You hear so much conflicting information out there. So many bloggers and businesses are telling you to do it one way: to find your niche and stick with that. But that's not necessarily the right way to go about it." Helene Sula

"I wanted to carve out my own blogging voice. One that is going to be for every blogger. Anyone can read me." Helene Sula

"I think when you are authentic, people will see that. And they want to continue to read and work with you." Helene Sula

"You have to put yourself in your readers, your audience's shoes. And think about "okay, if I'm reading this from their perspective, is this something they want to read? Does this sound like something that's coming from my voice?" Helene Sula

"Your blog is your brand." Helene Sula

"I like to ask myself, whenever I'm posting, whether it's a sponsored post or not, why would my audience care? And if the answer is they don't? Then I'm not going to post about it." Helene Sula

"My journey has kind of been different because early on, I was very obsessed with my blog. Because it was my creative outlet when I was stuck inside by myself all day, every day for months. Because I had this broken ankle and leg [from a rock climbing accident] and it was just a great way for me to get to express myself." Helene Sula

"I realized that blogging is something that has really changed the game on how we get our news, how we get our sports, everything. Everything you we can find online, you can find with blogs. And you can find someone else's perspective." Helene Sula

"Sometimes you just have to go for it. And really try to figure out, can this work for me?" Helene Sula

"The more I can learn, the more fear that goes away." Helene Sula

"Don't put all of your social media eggs in one basket." Helene Sula

"I think the more mistakes you make, it's okay. As long as you can learn from those and grow from those. The better you end up being: the better blogger, the better entrepreneur, the better Boss Girl you end up being." Helene Sula

"The main thing you have to think about - you are worth it. Your blog, your business has worth. And it deserves everything you put into it. You deserve to be paid for your work. You deserve to get recognition for your work. You are spending so much time and effort imparting your knowledge for free to others. You deserve the attention and the paid opportunities. It's not a bad thing to take paid opportunities. Because you are worth it." Helene Sula

"There is so much opportunity and room for everyone. We all are bloggers. We are all entrepreneurs. And there is room for everyone. Really, there is." Helene Sula

QUOTES BY TAYLOR
So much great stuff from Tena! Go listen!

QUOTES BY TENA
"In 2009, no joke, I'm sitting in the car with my hubby. And I thought 'I don't want to sit in a cubicle anymore.' He actually said to me "you are way too talented to be sitting in a cubicle" and it just like a huge light bulb went off. I always wanted to do the entrepreneurial thing. And I just never really knew what it looked like." Tena Pettis

"When I started thinking of Tena.cious and that light bulb went off. I thought, 'you know what? I don't want to be like every other design firm or web firm or when they combine and do design and web. I thought what is like that third thing I can do. And again, light bulb, it was like, I can manage Facebook Business Pages for people." Tena Pettis

"One of the things that really changed me was in January in 2013 is when I first did my first coaching program. And it was a group coaching program that I did with Erika Lyremark. And she, back then, had a business called The Morning Whip or the Daily Whip actually, and one of her courses was called The Morning Whip. She was an ex-stripper, she's doing amazing things still to this day. But she's kind of like similar in what she teaches to like the Marie Forleo B-School, but very different and much more hands on. You got to talk to Erika all of the time. So, I started working with her. And I remember at the time, in December of 2012, we had about $10,000 in sales a month. So, you know I had staff. I had overhead. I had all of these different things. And $10,000 is really not a lot. I hired and did that group coaching program and by February, actually, we had more than doubled our sales. So, that February was $22,000 in sales for that month. I was a true believer of the coaching program, let me tell you. And it just changed my whole mindset." Tena Pettis

"One thing that does come easy to me is ideas. I'm never out of new ideas...what's been hard is knowing when to take that next step. Knowing when to hire that person. Or when to take that next step. Risk." Tena Pettis

"I love to talk to people who have been there and done that." Tena Pettis

"I think Masterminds are best when people aren't working together." Tena Pettis

"I want to keep making the stuff we have, that much better." Tena Pettis

"I think most people and women especially are taking on too much at a time. And we want to do every social media platform and have our blog look perfect and our video look perfect and do Periscope and Blab and Meerkat. And blah blah blah blah blah. And the thing is, no one is benefiting from that. So, I say narrow things down. Declutter as much as you possibly can." Tena Pettis

QUOTES BY TAYLOR
"Whenever we start out on any new endeavor that fear of "Will people even take me seriously? Will they think I’m professional enough? Will they think I know what I’m talking about?" Taylor Bradford

"Take a step back and see, you know, does this really fit in? And like, yeah, shiny objects might look really cool but does it serve your main purpose?" Taylor Bradford

"It’s amazing how when we go down these journeys that that kind of thing can happen…you have to have a reality check even with yourself to say you know what is too much and how can you serve your clients the best and in what manner." Taylor Bradford

"I think that with anything I think we should look at fear as something that’s not necessarily scary because I think if we allow it to creep in and overtake us then it can bring in so much negativity to our business because we start doubting ourselves and our capabilities." Taylor Bradford

QUOTES BY ABBY
"I realized so many women were struggling with the overwhelming fear of weight gain and kind of being stuck in a diet trap I call it, because I had struggled with that for a few years prior to realizing, "oh this is what I want to do." Helping other women get out of that diet trap and mindset so they can just feel at peace with food and their bodies and learn to listen to their bodies again." Abby Hutcheson

"I kind of had this fear that I wouldn’t be able to manage it. I thought okay, ‘Where do I even start and if I don’t know where to start? How can I make this vision come to life of being a health coach?'" Abby Hutcheson

"I’ve really had to learn that just because something sounds good in the moment, you do have to take time to pause and think about the pros and cons of it…and I also ask myself how the opportunity will make me feel. When I’m working on it, if I’m following the expectations the opportunity has given me, will that make me feel energized? Will it fit with my business? Will it help my audience? If it doesn’t I have to say no." Abby Hutcheson

"If you know what the key priorities in your life and in your business are then it’s so much easier to say does this opportunity, no matter how good it is, no matter how much money it will bring me or whatever, does it really fit with what I value and what my top goal and priorities in my business are?" Abby Hutcheson

"The easiest part for me is connecting with other women who are looking for support that I can give them. You know guiding them and creating content whether it’s blog posts or emails or whatever. I find that to come pretty naturally to me and the time management side comes pretty naturally to me as well." Abby Hutcheson

"I like doing things that make me a little bit nervous because the results are always beyond expectations, almost always…I realized that what’s the best that could happen way, way, way outweighs what’s the worst…asking if this will benefit the women I work with." Abby Hutcheson

"Remember as a boss girl that you are a boss girl because you want to be more in control of your lifestyle, how you feel, your schedule, your income all of that. So with that being said make sure that you are really clear about what it is you want; how you do want to feel, how you want your days and your weeks to look like. Once you know that you can design your business and schedules around that." Abby Hutcheson

QUOTES BY TAYLOR
"You really have to have, A) You probably have to have a thick skin and you have to have the ability to know that tomorrow is another day and that you get to try all over again." Taylor Bradford

QUOTES BY STEPHANIE
"Everything has changed over these past ten years and as far as obstacles just keeping up with how fast everything is changing and also, not only in just the business and tech world, but also in your personal world." Stephanie Buckley

"One thing I have always done is never compromise my integrity. So if something came along and I didn’t feel it was right with who I am and if it wasn’t worth the time away from my family I said no. And I think because of that I have a great world of people that feed me and encourage me and I try to do the same for them." Stephanie Buckley

"I was just trying to find other people to hang out with. I couldn’t imagine that we would have communities in eight states and amazing women lifting each other up and helping each other become better women and bloggers and social media influencers." Stephanie Buckley

"The easiest for me because it’s one of my giftings is community building and I think that the hardest is probably when it kind of exploded for me as a business to transition to owning a business, being a business owner and having people that relied on me and I relied on them and sometimes that’s a little dance." Stephanie Buckley

"You can tango or you can slow dance but at the end of the day you have to just be happy with the person you chose to dance with." Stephanie Buckley

"I surround myself with like women. I have never with the state communities ever went to a state and sought someone to build a community because I think it takes a special gift to build a community. And I’ve just been blessed that those people have just come into my life and the ones that have been there like you [Taylor], who have been there from the beginning of Texas Women Bloggers came along, and you have been there that whole time and I have that in several of my states of just champions for what we want to do and all I do is a business now but it doesn’t work without community." Stephanie Buckley

"It takes a lot of work to build a community and the rewards are great but sometimes people don’t understand the work that goes into building a community." Stephanie Buckley

"If I blow it I just laugh at it, say ‘sweet mercy’ and move on because there is only so much you can do you know it’s not the end of the world. Tomorrow will come, my husband will still love me, my kids will still be there and if I blew something in my business you know we all pick ourselves up and tomorrow’s another day." Stephanie Buckley

"You always hear ‘go be amazing’ and I always laugh at that because you know you can’t always be amazing, but you can be you. And so don’t put on an act and try to be amazing all the time because that’s not the true you, that’s not who I want to know, I want to know who you are. So go out there and be honest and true and do good work that means something to you and help others and be a blessing on them." Stephanie Buckley

EPISODE AT A GLANCE
* Tailwind
* Buffer and Hootsuite
* Meet Edgar
* Facebook

QUOTES BY TAYLOR
"Now I utilize kind of a calendar, I don’t know who invented this Pinterest calendar but somebody did and I am scheduling pins based on the themes that people are pinning around during this particular time of year, or whatever particular time of year it happens to be and the engagement that I have seen on my account and the followers that I have seen on my account that are happening is slowly increasing which is amazing." Taylor Bradford

"Now the biggest difference between Hootsuite and Buffer is that I cannot automatically send things into my queue, I would have to manually copy and paste and add it to my schedule so it is a little more time consuming and I don’t use it in that manner however, I do use a tool called Meet Edger that is my Twitter scheduler." Taylor Bradford

"The other really cool thing with Hootsuite is you can see your dashboard straight across so if I’m looking at my Twitter account I can see my current feed on Twitter, I can see people talking to me, my mentions, I can see my tweets and I can see any lists that I create that I want to look at, I can watch a hashtag I can watch a list I can watch a person, I can see all of that running." Taylor Bradford

"The best thing that I love about Edgar is I can create the content that I want going out one time, stick it in Edgar and it will rotate and I won’t ever have to touch it unless I want to delete the tweet out of rotation which is really nice." Taylor Bradford

"If you have a Facebook page, you have the option to utilize their scheduler and it’s a really cool tool, it track analytics, it tracks how people interact with your posts. You can see the clicks you can see the likes you can see the comments, that’s really a cool function." Taylor Bradford

"If you just like to be organized, then I recommend using the Facebook scheduler, and I can say after, like this is my third or fourth week doing a very specific Facebook schedule, it is working!" Taylor Bradford

"If you’re sharing someone else’s content and they come thank you, respond back to them because it means that you are still paying attention, you’re not just taking their content to share because it’s awesome." Taylor Bradford

QUOTES BY JENNIFER
"I love that with tailwind, you have complete control over your schedule so you get to decide how many times to pin a day, what times you want to pin, they also track when you are being engaged so they will suggest times." Jennifer Salter

"I would say Tailwind is a must have if you are serious about your Pinterest game, like if you’re serious about Pinterest, and you want to grow, you’ve got to have Tailwind." Jennifer Salter

"[Buffer] is a two click scheduling for Twitter, you can use if for Facebook, they are integrated with Pinterest and as far as I know they are an approved third party, but it’s more complicated than Tailwind is and you can’t mass schedule." Jennifer Salter

"I’m sticking with it [Buffer] just for Twitter but its great because if there’s a tweet that I want to share across all of the social media accounts that I manage, all the twitter accounts that I manage, because there’s a couple, I can share them all in one space." Jennifer Salter

"If someone shares your post, go over there and thank them because it’s, a) the nice thing to do and also I think actually it helps show your readers not that you were just tagged but that there is something going on over there and it adds to the conversation which means there will be more eyes on that post. And if someone shared your content, you want people to see it." Jennifer Salter

EPISODE AT A GLANCE

* Learning Balance
* Easiest and Hardest Experiences
* Managing Fear
* Looking Ahead

QUOTES BY TAYLOR
"I stumbled on blogging because of the Pioneer Woman. Like I had seen her blog and I literally started binge reading it because I was like ‘wow what is this, I didn’t know these things existed!’ So I totally get like, I never thought in a million year I would be podcasting with you [Kristy] right now!" Taylor Bradford

"I have met some of the greatest people in this space…and this has been the best thing as an adult to find female people to chat with you know that have common interests and all that good stuff." Taylor Bradford

"It’s all about just do it, just start, just make that first one go away and then you will get comfortable in your own skin and what you are doing, that no matter what it is so if it is public speaking or pitching yourself to a brand or whatever it is, you’re literally holding your own self back so being able to putting one foot in front of the other and just starting." Taylor Bradford

"That first no will happen, but then the yes’s will start coming in!" Taylor Bradford

QUOTES BY KRISTY
"Especially with becoming an author, it’s just a very daunting thing to look at the statistics and see how difficult it really can be to actually you know get published in the way that I wanted to be published…it was kind of scary to even put myself out there and be open to that rejection, that was something I kind of has to fight through and get over." Kristy Woodson Harvey

"I’ve always wanted to be a writer I think, even when I was little I was carrying around notebooks and writing down little stories and um, I went to journalism school and I really thought that was what I wanted to do, be a journalist of some sort." Kristy Woodson Harvey

"I wanted to be able to look back and say, you know I went for it and this is something I really wanted to achieve and I kind of got that big five New York publishing house dream." Kristy Woodson Harvey

"There are so many details that go into bringing a book to life that I wasn’t really aware of until I was in this process and I think it’s amazing." Kristy Woodson Harvey

"I think it’s different when you’re writing something with a message that you really want to get out to the world, you know I think if I has been in that situation, maybe the indie route would have made more sense." Kristy Woodson Harvey

"On a daily basis you are really having to do a gut check of you know does this work for my audience, is this something my audience is going to like. I think one of the things for my mom and me is this idea was a complete hobby from the very beginning...we were in this for fun and to do things that we love and to share things that we love with our readers who we feel really, really close to. So I think on the blog end it’s easier for us to say no to opportunities that don’t really mesh well because we only want to showcase those things or those designers that we know our readers are going to love and be really excited about." Kristy Woodson Harvey

"As a writer there are things that come to you that man and I think three years ago I would have fallen all over that but you know today I only have so much time and there are only so many hours in the day, I think it just kind of comes back to priorities." Kristy Woodson Harvey

"It’s amazing to see all these people who work together and build each other up you know that’s what people are doing and it’s amazing how the world can become such a small place in such a great way you know to have friends with common interests just all over the place and feel like we know them so well."

"I think managing fear is kind of a practice I mean, I think it’s like you know they say will power is a muscle or self-control is a muscle you know the more you work it the stronger it get and I kind of think it’s the same with fear, the more you face it, the more you dive into and the more it turns out to not be very bad at all." Kristy Woodson Harvey

"It’s never going to be the perfect moment...you just have to figure out what it is that you really want and then try to figure out a way to make it happen and I think sometimes those excuses that we use are the reason we can’t do something, and that’s really just the fear getting in." Kristy Woodson Harvey

* How to respond to an Opportunity that isn't a great fit at the time
* Setting work/life boundaries & finding balance

QUOTES BY TAYLOR
"What are you being asked all the time over and over and over. Create a product around that." Taylor Bradford

"I love Periscope. It's been a really fun way to just kind of meet your community where they are." Taylor Bradford

QUOTES BY AMY
"I have a really hard time landing on one thing and sticking with it. So, I get, shiny app syndrome or whatever you want to call it. So all of these social media things are new and exciting and interesting. And I'm like 'oh that looks nice, let me see what that's all about' and I sort of get lost along the way. So it's been really hard for me to stick with one thing and go in that direction." Amy Lynn Andrews

"When I started the Useletter®, I don't know what it is about the difference in the writing, it's still writing, but for some reason I'm able to write the Useletter® every week. And over 2 years, I've only missed 2 weeks of sending it out. And that is shocking for me and both of those 2 weeks were actually planned." Amy Lynn Andrews

"My biggest obstacle is just sticking to it and being consistent." Amy Lynn Andrews

"The way that it call came about (The Useletter®)...I realized, oh my goodness, this whole blogging thing is really becoming more than just blogging. Now we have social media and we have YouTube and of course all of the different platforms on social media. And the stuff you that you need to do and all the changes that come with it all the time. So blogging is much bigger and really we not really bloggers anymore. We're digital content producers." Amy Lynn Andrews

"If I can't say yes (to an opportunity), I definitely can get behind this and promote it, then I say no." Amy Lynn Andrews

"I like to keep my options open. Generally I'll just say, if I have to say no to something, you know "Thanks for reaching out. Given my current projects, I am going to have pass this time. But please keep me in mind for similar projects down the road and maybe we can collaborate sometime in the future." Amy Lynn Andrews

"(Loving your job)...To get to a point where, my goodness, I get to do this every day. And then on top of it, I get paid to do it. Could life be any better?" Amy Lynn Andrews

"(Finding balance)...The first thing that comes to mind is we're always in flex. And allowing ourselves to look at the season we are in. And then create your schedule around that." Amy Lynn Andrews

"(Finding balance)...Number 2 is for me especially, I need in order to be really super productive, I need to have a really good chunk of time to sort of get into the zone and work for several hours. And then be able to come out of it at the other end. Before I was trying to squeeze work in the nooks and crannies of life. You know, like here's an hour free or here's a couple of hours free, or I've got 10 minutes to go through email or whatever. That's hard. Now I have a full day, once a week, where I leave in the morning and don't come home until late in the evening or afternoon. And I just work all day." Amy Lynn Andrews

"Make a list the night before, preparing yourself for what you are going to work on the next day." Amy Lynn Andrews

"I think it's important to think big picture." Amy Lynn Andrews

"I really have made a point of staying nimble. Which means keeping things running in such a way that I can change really quickly." Amy Lynn Andrews

"I'm moving away from blogging as we know it, let's say. And really thinking about what I want to do going forward. Just as blogging has changed so much and there's so many new things on the horizon all of the time. And I don't think people are reading blogs as much as they used to. So I think that we are kind of at this point where we gotta figure out what we are going to do moving forward. Because I don't think that the way we've done it in the past, blogging in general, is really going to keep us all moving forward as we go. There's a lot of microblogging now on social media platforms and of course Podcasting and Video, like we said. So, I'm just in the process of trying to turn around my the whole ship that I started, really." Amy Lynn Andrews

EPISODE AT A GLANCE
* Beginning to Collaborate
* Reasons to Collaborate
* Expanding your Community
* Expanding your Horizons
* Expanding your Opportunities
* Different Types of Collaborations
* Building Community
* Building Brand Awareness ($$)

QUOTES BY TAYLOR
"The main part [of a tribe] is to be able to bounce ideas back and forth you know sharing contacts and whatever else we need help with, we celebrate each other. It has been a great place as far as connecting and kind of really growing." Taylor Bradford

"[My Book Club] it has kind of evolved over the years from trying to figure out what really works and like what’s feasible because you know everybody’s busy and trying to maintain an online book club, what I’ve experienced in person with books clubs is...what keeps the book clubs going is the in person events so trying to figure that out online has been an interesting ride for sure." Taylor Bradford

"I think you would just set yourself up to fail if you didn’t kind of have that sitting at the back of your brain that it’s going to change, you know your idea once you first pitch it is one of the things on collaborations because you are able to test ideas and products and you know what’s feasible, what works, what doesn’t work I mean I think that’s the nature of any kind of business regardless of collaboration, but it does allow you to see what works and truly what you’re trying to do with a collaboration is grow...grow in some way and whether it be to grow your community or grow your brand. I mean you are going to grow. So whether it works or doesn’t work it helps you figure out what direction to move or to go, in order to continue to grow." Taylor Bradford

"It’s expanding your community when you collaborate." Taylor Bradford

"I want the value in the podcast and my listeners to take away something from everything I put out there so yeah, for sure I don’t go into it thinking ‘yeah this is going to push me over the top!’" Taylor Bradford

"When you collaborate with someone else, it kind of opens your eyes to see things differently because the person you are collaborating with may view you in a light that you didn’t realize and, I am saying this in a positive way." Taylor Bradford

"It almost, in a way, secretly reaffirms that you are on the right path that you are doing what you are supposed to be doing when someone does recognize that in you but you don’t yet see it. That’s a character builder for me is that I know I’m on that right path when someone approaches me and says, ‘I need to learn everything you know.’" Taylor Bradford

"What I think bloggers have that no one else has is we have learned the power of our community. We have learned the power of our social media. And we know how to utilize those things to build our brand and build our market and build what we are saying is important to us. And that’s the true power of collaborating...to be able to collaborate maybe with similar paths but you guys can both bring something different to the table." Taylor Bradford

"Do you have time to collaborate with somebody? And do they have time to collaborate with you? Because you don’t want to put all of your eggs in the basket and for them to put two. You know you want it to be a 50/50 thing so it benefits both of you, regardless of it’s your idea." Taylor Bradford

QUOTES BY KIRSTEN
"I blogged in a vacuum, which is to say I did not talk to any other bloggers, I did not know what was going on and I wish now that I did because I just look back at those years and think how much better of a blogger I would be now had I been really learning or talking to other people or implementing things that I know how to implement now." Kirsten Oliphant

"The more I hung around with other bloggers and kind of connected with some of those same bloggers at the Blog Elevated conference also, a whole set of new bloggers, I really just started to soak up information like a sponge and not just information. I joined a little tribe of people after the conference and we all had sort of different kind of blogs." Kirsten Oliphant

"One of the biggest things to realize as you’re doing [in collaborating] so is that they are going to evolve...sometimes you go into something with one sort of idea in mind of what is will be and then it changes and that’s sort of necessary." Kirsten Oliphant

"Sometimes people go into podcasting thinking they are going to blow up because they have big guests and they think the guests will share with their list...but I do know that some people share better than others. I’ll say and I have heard from other podcasters that you know they interview people and it never gets shared." Kirsten Oliphant

"Share without expecting things back." Kirsten Oliphant

"When you start collaborating with other people and working with them I think you do start to see that value, and other people see the value, and I have started to see value in myself that I didn’t know was there until someone was like, ‘you are so good at this!’" Kirsten Oliphant

"I am always learning...I feel like I start to see things differently the more I talk to other people and experts in their fields." Kirsten Oliphant

"From the conferences I’ve been to, I get so much value from connecting with other people and the things that come out of that." Kirsten Oliphant

QUOTES BY TAYLOR
"I would just rather have someone go find something else to read than cause me problems like you know because we do grow and we do change and that’s the nature of any business and that's what we are, we are businesses." Taylor Bradford

"I will share whatever I am talking about, [in] the very first paragraph, I will interject whatever personality I have and whatever commentary I have." Taylor Bradford

"We are kind of in a solo business even though we have other bloggers that we can go chat with, this is still our solo business, and you need someone that is not in your world to be able to cushion you." Taylor Bradford

"You don’t really want to burn out because this is your job and this is your business that you have been cultivating for so long but you need to be able to kind of renew yourself somehow and how do you do that well, you almost need to force yourself to take a break in order to recharge and be able to continue to put out the compelling content." Taylor Bradford

QUOTES BY RACHEL
"Really trying to stay true to why I started doing it and staying true to my own voice instead of trying to get caught up in the fads or things that really don’t fall along my voice or my audience or my message which really is a food blog with family on the side." Rachel Matthews

"I have found myself saying, ‘well if I just post about this once, then I can kind of maximize on this,’ and it never feels authentic to me." Rachel Matthews

"She [a reader] had a point that she sees people jumping on band wagons and all of a sudden they go away from the person that she’s loved reading, I also went and explained to her well we are all growing and sometimes you read a blog for a long time and then the blog goes on a different path because that is where that blogger has gone." Rachel Matthews

"You kind of have to realize that sometimes while they’re [readers] there for what the service you’re providing, they are not interested in who you are as a person, so that is an interesting line to walk as a food blogger...is how much personal do you get into and how much do you just stay recipes." Rachel Matthews

"Closing the door is never a good idea as far as I believe. Always leave it open and I will tell you something, all PR people of all levels and of all companies talk." Rachel Matthews

"My love language is food, hands down and doing this has allowed me to pursue photography which has always been a passion of mine but I never thought would be something that I could do further than a side hobby or a tourist." Rachel Matthews

"The hardest [part of blogging] is being a business. Not just doing it for fun, really taking the time and doing the research and continually learning and following all the ever loving different changes of every network and every new thing that comes out." Rachel Matthews

"Prayer, really, as cliché or trite as that sounds, when I start to feel like I can’t do this or questioning myself or really just going ‘oh my gosh is this going to be the right decision, am I doing the best for myself, for my family, for everything'...taking a minute and kind of closing everything down, saying a prayer and sometimes going to my husband and saying, ‘okay, help me, let’s talk,’ because he is my biggest sounding board but he's also my biggest supporter." Rachel Matthews

"Many more spouses are coming to conferences and seeing the space and getting to understand what happens, and seeing the power behind it. And also for how far that this space has come, and how many people are coming out of this with radio shows and TV shows and books, cookbooks, all of these amazing experiences and the way that they are being kind of rocketed into the stratosphere has really made more people step back and go "oh"." Rachel Matthews

"Be authentic, be kind, and lift others up because if we don’t do those things and we don’t put that out there, what kind of world are we creating for ourselves but what are we leaving for those that come behind us." Rachel Matthews

QUOTES BY TAYLOR
"I do have to take a step back and if it’s not going to be like a good fit with the brand, but if I know I’m going to have to like jump through a million hoops, if it’s not worth the hoop jumping, than there’s just no reason to say yes. So whether or not it’s the best thing since sliced bread, if I have to do too much like to make that same kind of whatever it happens to be…I do think now I look at things in a sense of, ‘how is my health going to be affected?’ 'Am I going to be stressed out, am I not going to have sleep?'" Taylor Bradford

"If you’re just sitting there like how are you ever going to get going forward you know if you can’t share what you’re going through and whether or not it’s a setback or a hurdle or whatever it might be, there is probably someone, if not you, that can give some insight." Taylor Bradford

QUOTES BY ANNE
"I think my biggest obstacle just ever, and if there’s ever an issue, it’s to do with confidence actually, believe it or not. Something I do just kind of try to convince myself, trick myself that I am confident into doing something. But the belief is something I fight almost, not every single day but if there is something that I start freaking out about it’s usually tied to; did I give enough, are my skills enough, do I know what I’m talking about." Anne Samoilov

"I always want to help people, but I’ve had to really reel myself in and do that same thing and say ‘why am I not feeling this?’ ‘Why am I not feeling it?’ And so for me there's really practical concerns, I have my daughter...there's things that are going on with her school, there might be things that are going on with me and I always remind myself of past times when I didn’t say no, and I should have." Anne Samoilov

"I started working just toward something. I wasn’t sure what it was. But I definitely saw like the day to day of what I would be doing and things I'd be creating and how I would be working with helping people and teaching, definitely teaching, always teaching." Anne Samoilov

"The easiest part is creating new things. Because I get excited about new ideas and not just my own but other peoples, so that keeps me engaged and excited in Fearless Launching." Anne Samoilov

"The hardest thing has been being myself. But just realizing ‘okay people don’t like it, whatever, they can take a walk or whatever’ and also getting over myself that anyone really cares if I’m goofy or not." Anne Samoilov

"Anytime that I feel anxious and that's as close to fear that I can think. Whether it’s related to maybe like my money goal, afraid I’m not going to reach them. What happens when people find out. It’s all that kind of stuff. It’s all very self-preservation. I’m trying to make sure that I, you know, stay as reputable and respectable as I can. That if I ever feel anxious about those things...the way that I fight it is that I just take action on something. Like I’ll just take out my to do list and start taking action and I immediately don’t feel anxious anymore." Anne Samoilov

"There is really no rule book…as far as how you do something, or how you grow your brand or how you grow your community, or whatever it is your trying to do, there's no rulebook, we kind of invent things as we go." Taylor Bradford

"Brands are flying by the seat of their pants because this is a new space for them and as far as traditional advertising and traditional media, they have a set process and whereas an online world, there is really not one yet." Taylor Bradford

"The moment that you can just be honest with yourself that there is a potential for failure, and it’s okay to have those thoughts and feelings, I think you become more true and real to your readers, that your product and what you’re creating and what you’re putting out there in the world becomes better, because we are human. We're not perfect." Taylor Bradford

QUOTES BY HEATHER
"Honestly, the biggest obstacle is always myself, which is you know, I feel like typically the case, just when you’re trying to do something and you have so many creative people out there that are doing something similar…it can be really hard to not second guess yourself on every single thing that you do and so kind of getting over that, and getting over the hurdle of instead of trying to be like other people, just trying to take what you love about their style and apply it to my own style." Heather Disarro

"This is an every growing, ever changing industry. And it's still kind of a baby industry at this point and so just as advertisers and third party companies and ad networks kind of are always changing their policies and having to go with the ebb and flow of that, that's always been another big obstacle." Heather Disarro

"I had to get to a point where I was like ‘okay my time is worth this much money,’ and not just because it’s my time because now it’s my children’s time and my husband’s time and they deserve to have a mom and a wife who’s completely present when they are home and I can’t be that if I don’t be very selective with what I do. So I really only try to work with companies that I really believe in what they do, that they have a good reputation…" Heather Disarro

"To go from wishing I could get some free granola bars to making a full time income, I didn’t even put the two together." Heather Disarro

"I’d rather know that I put it all on the table, rather than held back and I hope my boys see me, I hope they do see me fail and see me get back up again and do it different and try again, because I think that is one of the biggest life lessons I could ever teach them." Heather Disarro

"You can look at other people and kind of gleam things that you really like from their work but, as far as aspiring to be exactly like somebody or to be the next somebody, you know it’s so much better if your just try to be yourself." Heather Disarro

TAYLOR SAID
"...try to find a tribe of people of no more than ten when you are first starting out. And some people now are calling them masterminds which I think is a cool girl boss term because a tribe doesn’t necessarily have to be everybody in your exact niche." Taylor Bradford

"What it feel like to be part of a tribe, just the camaraderie of having people that kind of know what you’re doing and kind of understand it." Taylor Bradford

"I can’t stress enough how important finding a blog tribe is." Taylor Bradford

"Seasons change. Friendships change. Tribes change." Taylor Bradford

"The biggest, number one thing you need to look for in a tribe is people you can trust." Taylor Bradford

"You want to be able to freely share about the things that are going on in your head, like your ideas, in a space where you will not feel like someone might scrape that idea, or steal that idea." Taylor Bradford

"Cultivating your tribe is more than just blogging and commenting on their blogs." Taylor Bradford

"Always give back, always offer support, and always provide value." Taylor Bradford

JENNIFER SAID
"Finding people who were of the same mind and interested in the same things, which was blogging, was so key for me not going crazy." Jennifer Salter

"Your tribe will change, guaranteed, it will change overtime, but that’s a good thing because you’re growing, which means your tribe needs to grow." Jennifer Salter

"You want to look for people too that are learning things, you don’t want to talk about the same old things." Jennifer Salter

"Try to find a least two or three people who are experts in something that you suck at." Jennifer Salter

"Your tribe is not about getting ahead, your tribe is about supporting each other and sharing knowledge." Jennifer Salter

"Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there because, if you’re doing it through your computer, there is a little bit of a buffer so you don’t have to be afraid of rejection because you know it might happen but, just feel comfortable." Jennifer Salter
